Most events are 1.5 Hrs long. Including the time to prepare, we estimate each even to take a total of 5 effort hours from the volunteers.
Any STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) related topic of your interest is encouraged. The level of the content should be something that an elementary school student can comprehend. Relevant topic ideas include (but not limited to): Lego Robotics, Chess, Scratch Programming, Coding, 3D Printing Design, Math, Rubik’s cube, etc.
Middle and high school volunteers can share their STEM knowledge with younger elementary and middle school children and obtain a certificate of completion and official Bright Futures community service hours log sign-off after your session. Usually, sessions are conducted online via Webex and they are around 1.5 hours; which equates to 5 volunteering hours including preparation time. Also, check-out other ways to share and earn hours.
One of our experienced volunteers will help you in your first event. The event will be interactive and not just a presentation. You can choose to break the event into sections.
We will work with you to create a curriculum and a presentation depending on the subject. You can contact us for help anytime you are looking for advice.
